This here is the current action @ theshed news.
(08/19/05) POST Shed life ='s just as awesome as IN THE MOMENT
Shed life. First, February 17th saw the first ever WESTERN
MASSACHUSETTS FLYER RETROSPECTICUS, which placed over 2,000
old school Western MA flyers on the walls of Gallery TK in Northampton.
Second, April 30th saw a killer show at Camp Stanica with Jason
Anderson, Mount Eerie and Thanksgiving. Some cash was even
raised to help with repairs to fix up the camp after having
been seriously vandalized earlier in the year. Third, an actual
DVD of Old Store / Shed junk now exists. On August 3rd we released
/ screened "Palmer is Beautiful: The Old
Store & The Shed Video Collection". The DVDDL-RRRR contains
3 hours and 35 minutes of video shot from 1998-2005 and features
72 amazing bands. Also, Joe Macon / Im
Macon Movies did an incredible job helping out and taking care
of the technical side of putting the DVD together and it looks great. If you are
interested in picking up a copy you can go here
or email michael@theoldstore.org.
In other news, the Shed web site is now updated with new info,
new flyers and new pictures. The video section will be down
for now but we hope to have it back up soon. That's it for now,
hope you've all had an awesome summer! Keep an eye out for other
awesome events in the area. And big ups to the folks setting
up more and more shows in Palmer too! Fall will own.
(11/07/05) Friends... The Shed is history. We made it to our 100th show together! The last 3 jams were over the freaking top. Halloween saw 1000 balloons take over the Shed, Nov 4th saw a second romp with our Bright Rectangle friends and Nov 5th was quite possibly one of the best Shed shows ever (top 5 at least). So yeah, we started and ended this junk on our own terms, that is amazing. The people and the weather that showed up for the last show couldn't have been more awesome. Mike and John plan on doing some music shows elsewhere in town in the near future. Lots of other peeps do awesome stuff so we shouldn't be with out music jams for too long. Mike and John plan to do an overhaul on the website in winter (new pics, video, info etc). In other news, The Shed made the advocate this week. Dig it: "Sheds Swan Song" This just in: Palmer is really, really beautiful.
(10/20/05) The Anderson / Mount Eerie / Thanksgiving / Poofy
Poof show was amazing! 100 peeps in the backyard... wow! The
Shed roof now has a custom hole in it (brought to you by Adrian's
Sky light Installations). The Myshkin double header was a blast
and despite the crumby weather, 60 people still showed up on
the 1st night. Even the popo stopped by (courtesy of the very
confusing neighbors in the prefab house cross the way). So yeah,
the real news: 3 Shows left, such an awesome run...
(08/11/05) So, we did a show in the woods w/ Jason Anderson, Can Kickers and Chris Carlton and it was one of the best Shed shows in all history (v. amazing). The Shed has gone international for the second time... Love of Diagrams from Sydnee Australia ripped it up in July and it was Awesome. Skarmy and Honkey Dorey got back together and played a Shed benefit for a boy who needed heart surgery and we raised close to $800.00! The 2nd (and last) Bad Film Fest was great and Parts and Labor + Neptune each gave the best Shed show they've ever played. WTF dude, this is some awesome junk. Right, so we are on to our 2nd half of the last year of Shed jams. We've got a lot of great stuff in store and it looks like we will make it to our 100th backyard music event. Totally sweet!!
(06/03/05) Shows, shows, shows! Also, we now have a video section on our site. Click here to view the handful of videos that we have up now. More will be posted in the near future (new + old vids). Summer is totally here!
(05/11/05) The first two shows started off kinda of rocky but the third show of 2005 felt like we were back into the swing of things. The summer is pretty much booked till September and each show looks like it should / could be highly anticipated. We still haven't fixed the hole in the floor but plan on doing so in late July. Oh yeah, incase you didn't know THE SHED IS NOT DEAD... click the #1 to see yet another clipping from the Valley Advocate that talks about The Shed and it's current state of being. [1]
(02/02/05) We at The Shed are proud to present "POST MORTEM 2005: The Shed and beyond". For those who saw or know of the Advocate column that spoke of The Shed in the past tense (under the title THE SHED IS DEAD) you get the joke. Blood Shed 2004 was great, and P-M.05T.S.A.B. should be even better. Yesm. Our 2005 season is already in the works. We have big big plans and high hopes for this to be the best show season yet. New things go like this: the web site is updated with new links, up coming shows, new pictures, complete past show listings + flyers and a handful of other fine details. Be sure to keep an eye out for the butt-loads of fun to come. (click the number 1 for a clipping of the Advocate article) [1]
(11/14/04) The last Shed show of 2004 is passed, and we all shared a triumphant "fair well" with Skarmy of Darkness. In Terms of Shed seasons past, 2004 has been the most productive and thrilling yet. Such good times for sure...
In the near future we plan on having a bedroom show and a winter
show over the break between now and 2005 (which will be the
last year of The Sheds existence. So if you haven't come to
a show in all of our 5 years, be sure to stop by and make Shed
/ Palmer / DIY history). Yes, so until then have a safe and
productive and non-depressing winter!
(10/03/04)
O.K., The Shed is still going strong. The Sept. 25th show was
such a blast, really. Folks came from as far as Ottawa Canada
to check it out. And so it goes... One week later many of us
are still riding the good time vibe of that show. Where does
that leave us now? The home stretch for our 2004 season, that's
where. 4 more shows, a movie screening and The Sheds 4th halloween
bash to go. Let the good times roll man! Let the good times
roll. Shed=beautiful magic
(06/01/04) The Shed & The Old Store Collective made the Palmer Journal twice last month. Both blurbs covered the Book Mobile Project event that we hosted at the Palmer Public Library in May. Special thanks to ms. Hellen from Flywheel and Mark Contois from the Palmer Public Library. Needless to say, the event was a hoot! (click the numbers to see one of the two clippings). [1] [2]
(04/30/04) A lot has been changing recently. It's strange, and weird and good. We are now limited to 2 music events a month which as you could guess, is going to reduce the amount of musical groups that we can have play this season. As for the past few shows: they have been a blast and we are stoked to see that folks understand the need get the touring groups a few more bucks than the years previous. So we go from $3 up to $4, and seriously enforce the "don't come expecting to receive if you don't plan on giving" policy type idea. And as always, if folks don't have the dough, we still encourage them to bring canned goods for the Palmer food share and so on. YES, we are also excited to have 3 or 4 killer shows / events in the works for later this season (yup, yup). That's the latest for now... P.S. We are not closed, nor intend to do so. We have at the very least / most one more shed season in us to bring to the masses, 2005 style.
(03/01/04)
Welcome to the newly updated Shed web site! We are currently
setting up shows / other fun events for our 2004 season. We
have a handful of musical surprises and a few field trips in
the works for all of ya'll. Be sure to attend the Shed season
kick off on April 10th (and bring yr new dance steps with you
as well). Yes ma'am!
(11/07)
The 2003 season is now very over. 26 events later, we close
up and stay indoors. This season it seems that we were blessed
with the best of luck / fortune of having so many great bands,
and so many new faces visit our backyard. Its also great to
know that we donated close to 10 boxes of canned goods to palmer
food share this season as well. Yes, this little thing we have
makes us smile. Music seems to speak more, being mixed in with
a large group of folks seems rather nice and we certainly have
a lot of memories to look back on when were kickin' around five
years from now. As for the present, we have a few tricks up
our selves for the 2004 season. Yesm- a few crazy ideas, and
some killer musical acts to add to our list of amazingly good
times. Lets hope winter inst as temperamental as it was last
year, and lets all stay safe and sound and good, o.k.?
(10/04)
The Final stretch is in sight! We were very very fortunate
to have Friends Forever, Neptune, XBXRX, HawnayTroof, Corsano / Flahrety
& CowboysandIndians come visit the shed these past few shows.
There is nothing on this big blue planet that compares to the
feeling of being in close quarters with such awesome musics / people
(talkin bout the shed goers). Its also great to hear things like
"You guys have something really great here. Its amazing!" or
"This is one of our favorite places to play"- and we've heard
that many times. Really, The only reason to mention this is
to remind everyone of how lucky we really are to have our own
independently supported and prospering DIY community. Some how,
this whole thing is still working 53 shows later- that's mind
blowing! We should all be thankful for having supportive and
tolerant neighbors, and proud to know that each of us is doing
our part in helping our little gathers continue to happen. Thanks
to everyone who has stopped by these past few shows to share
a moment or two & with three shows left for 2003, there's still
more to come!
(09/08) My goodness, who would have thought that The Shed would ever see its 50th show? Yesm! on Sept. 6th it all came true. What can we say that hasn't already been said before? Amazing, Beautiful, Inspirational and oh yes- The Sheds debut of Shark & Bear... good stuff! Plus Mike and Allison made tasty cupcakes and we scarfed them down. Over all, The Shed has five shows left- each not to be missed! A big thank you to everyone who supports our efforts and an even bigger thank you to the folks who brought all of the canned goods to the last show. Very ROMANTIC! Would anyone laugh if they caught Boilard spooning with The Shed?
(06/21) Well, things have been pretty busy & bustling these past few months...
We sincerely apologize to all of the groups who have inquired
about shows, only to be told that we are booked for the year.
Yep, the amazing yet sad troof is that there is not enough
Shed / days in the year to do all of the things that we would
like to. As it is, we have been doing double days / weekends to
fit everything in and that's still not enough / more than we
ever intended on setting up. We are trying to get everyone in so
please be patient. In the mean time, feel free to stop by
and check out a show or two. Good stuff now, and more to come.
End On End makes their 3rd visit from Cali / Tinkle Potty also makes
a 3rd visit and the wonderful XBXRX wil play in October. holy
crow!
(04/17)
The first show of the season saw 60+ shed goers despite the
crumby weather. A great time was had by all and many thanks
go to the bands who braved the 8 hour event. Also, The Old Store / Shed
partnership made the front page of the journal last week (click
the numbers to see one of the two sections). [1]

(11/08/02)
The Shed is going into hibernation for the winter months. A
schedule for next year is already in the works and it looks
just as great as this year has been. Tonight's show was simply
amazing. 70+ folks, lots of new faces and nothing but great
times. Its just so damn amazing. Creativity, exchange of ideas,
and community interaction all in a back yard, under a clear
friday night sky full of spaceships, aero planes and clusters
of stars. Thanks to all of the folks who support The Shed, DIY
music (or any kind of music) and all else related. Its truly
magical, inspiring and awesome to share it with everyone. See
you all next year!! Stay safe!
(9/30) We are so glad to have been apart
of the most recent events at The Shed (as well as each-all previous).
Things have been hoppin' round these parts and October is going
to wrap up this years show season. With the much needed rest
in winter, next summer will be a fresh, reborn effort and hopefully
it will be just as amazing as this summer has been. Wow.
(8/23) The second half of the show season is here. We plan
on going until its just to damn cold to move anymore. Please,
BRING canned goods if you haven't dough to donate to the bands.
The Palmer Food Share could always use the donations as well. Hope
to see ya around!
(7/27) Second wave of shows to end the season are now being set up. more fun to bee had. still none PA :(
(6/25) Shows have been pretty much free since the beginning.
From now on, it is asked that if you cannot donate cash money
please bring nonperishable items that will be donated to
the Palmer Food Share. Palmer makes out either way and we get
to have fun doing it.
(4/28) theoldstore.org is now our new space. please feel free to make your self at home. Look around, grab a snack, sleep on our sofa!
(4/19) Flywheel
/ The Old Store / The Shed / Fugazi made the Valley Advocate
in the April 18-24 issue. Go git yr copy. (click here
for the clipping.)
